My wife, Melinda has been seriously injured in three separate rear end collisions.  She has had a cervical fusion with spinal cord injury in 1999, another cervical fusion with severe spinal cord injury in 2003, which resulted in incomplete quadriplegia. 

Miraculously, she was able to become rehabilitated enough to walk again and become independent, and was able to drive again.  In June of this year, she was rear ended again, re-injuring her spinal cord in the same place for the third time, again she is barely able to function. 

I too, have learned a lot since my wife's crashes, there is not much you can do to avoid them.  (They were never our fault, in all of the events, our vehicle was stopped at an intersection and the other driver was distracted and crashed into our vehicle).

In the two latest crashes, we were hit directly on the receiver hitch.  There was nothing to absorb the energy, it felt like a 4,000 lb. sledgehammer had hit our car. 

I was going to build a device that would fit into a receiver hitch, to absorb energy in the event of another rear end collision.  I thought I would do some research, to see if anyone else had developed something like this. 

I found your website on Thanksgiving day, and ordered two of them the day after Thanksgiving.  I received them last Friday and installed them on our Durango and Dodge Ram truck.  I am impressed by the quality and simple design. 

I wish I had found your website earlier, this may have prevented the injuries from the latest crash this summer. 

I have told many people about your products, including the insurance companies I am dealing with. They have requested that I bring our Durango to their offices so they can see what your superbumper looks like.

For your information standard type bars that fit into the receiver hitch here in Canada are around $100 plus 15% tax here in Ontario.  I was going to buy one just before I discovered your website.  Yours with the shipping, currency exchange and duty was $167.00.  Having a crash tested functional hitch bar that would limit damage to the rear of the vehicle and occupants inside due to its shock absorbing function for a minor difference in price is a great value indeed.  Vincent Csunyoscka

Hi Jeff,  After having my E350 washed, I noticed a considerably large (3 inch tall & 4 inch long) blue paint streak on my Superbumper.  This probably happend when someone in a blue vehicle was trying to park or exit.  I'm certainly glad that I had installed the Superbumper since it most likely saved both my electrical trailer connection as well as some of my back-up sensors in the rear bumper.  You have a great product.   John Bode - Eden Prairie, MN

Hi Jeff, Just wanted to let you know I unfortunately got to test my Superbumper.  I drive a Tahoe and got rear ended by a driver in a Silverado not paying attention doing about 15-20 mph.  My truck suffered damage but could have been SO MUCH WORSE.  The Superbumper took the initial hit and didn't bend or snap.  It suffered some nice scratches and cuts into the metal but stayed true.   So I wanted to say thank you for saving my rear!  Peter Moreland - Budd Lake, NJ...P.S.  Due to this though, my Dad plans on getting one for his new Envoy to protect it.

Hi Jeff - Yesterday somebody rear ended me while I was stopped.  No damage to the (Honda) Ridgeline, but the Superbumper is ruined.  I certainly would have had significant damage to the rear bumper otherwise.  I'd say she was going at least 10 mph because there were no sounds of last minute braking and she told me that she was "watching the rain in the distance."  In reality, I would not be suprised if she was pushing 20 mph.  Thanks for sending me a new Superbumper.  Dan

It’s been a while since I have posted and I missed you guys (And gals)! Especially you Thai! lol

I still have my 05 but almost lost it due to an accident my wife had a week ago. She wasn’t hurt but the 4Runner took a good hit. She was traveling on a highway when a young kid in a spankin new Camaro lost control (Said he hydroplaned) behind her and while spinning behind her clipped her Superbumper. This caused her to spin and plow the guardrail (front of vehicle). Thank God it wasn’t totaled.

If it wasn’t for the Superbumper the truck would probably have been totaled. I need the truck to tow my new camper/trailer (Coming soon). If I would have lost the truck I would have had to get a new GX (Need the V8’s tow rating) because the new 4Runner only has a 5K lbs. tow rating and no air susp.

Anyway, the Superbumper! It is an impact absorbing hitch step. A couple years ago, the little woman had a tree surprise her while backing up (Yah, even with the backup camera). She bent the $250 hitch step, which now was trash. While researching for a new step I found the Superbumper. It can absorb a 20mph impact without damage and has a LIFETIME guarantee to be replaced for FREE if it gets damaged in any rear impact. It also costs the same as a regular hitch step. The Superbumper worked as advertized and prevented any real damage to the rear of the truck. It only bent a little and amazingly never hit the bumper. The Camaro’s whole right side was torn up by the Superbumper. Needless to say but anyone who has a hitch should get one.

 Hey Jeff, Yesterday I pulled the 'Sparebumper' off the Ridgeline - I wanted to hit it with a fresh coat of paint.  That bumper has taken so many hits for me - mostly low speed parallel parking rubs, and it bears its scars proudly until I re-spray it from time to time and it turns up like new!

About 3 months ago I was rear-ended (it was low speed) by an old lady in a monstrous Cadillac sedan. No damage to me at all - it was nice to not worry about anything. Who knows what my bumper would have looked like without my sparebumper though...  It's paid for itself so many times.

I just wanted to give a little testimonial.

We were recently blessed to have a baby in May and in July upgraded from a two seat Ford Ranger to a 5 Seat Toyota Tundra Double Cab.  The Double Cab is a longer than usual truck and I had already been backed into in a grocery store parking lot.

This is when I found and brought your product.  Well, I was taking my now 4 month old son and our dog for a ride this afternoon when I was rear ended by a car going 30 miles per hour (I was sitting in traffic and he was rubbernecking an accident and did not see me until too late).

I barely felt the impact and neither my son (he was checked out at the hospital to make sure) or dog seemed to be impacted by the collision.  When I exited the car to see if the other driver was alright (he was), I found a huge gash in his grill and pieces of his car scattered on the street.

When I examined my truck, there was not even a scratch on the bumper.  The Superbumper did its job, with only a few scuff marks and the step grip material being torn off.

I wanted to thank you for the quality of the product and the fact that it did what was advertised.
